I made some more videos to post but my laptop won't access the internet now. I think it's broken. I'll have to transfer the files with a flash drive to a desktop computer at the internet cafe'. It'll get here eventually.

The Rule of Three and Subfigurations

One way to fill up the space in a section is to apply the "rule of three." Its' used from Mozart to Blues artists, Phil Collins to Metallica. In the "rule of three" you repeat an idea exactly or almost exactly two times then vary it or add new material for the third phrase. Here are as many of the ways I could think of to do that. The only one I left out was elision.




I also have video of each example but the volume turned out to be annoyingly quiet. The videos are not in order but are clearly labeled.
































Subfigurations can be used to make an infinite variety of new material based on the existing material.
